HTTPD(8) httpd HTTPD(8) NNAAMMEE httpd - Apache Hypertext Transfer Protocol Server SSYYNNOOPPSSIISS hhttttppdd [ -dd _s_e_r_v_e_r_r_o_o_t ] [ -ff _c_o_n_f_i_g ] [ -CC _d_i_r_e_c_t_i_v_e ] [ -cc _d_i_r_e_c_t_i_v_e ] [ -DD _p_a_r_a_m_e_t_e_r ] [ -ee _l_e_v_e_l ] [ -EE _f_i_l_e ] [ --kk start|restart|graceful|stop|graceful- stop ] [ -hh ] [ -ll ] [ -LL ] [ -SS ] [ -tt ] [ -vv ] [ -VV ] [ -XX ] [ -MM ] [ -TT ] On Windows systems, the following additional arguments are available: hhttttppdd [ -kk install|config|uninstall ] [ -nn _n_a_m_e ] [ -ww ] SSUUMMMMAARRYY hhttttppdd is the Apache HyperText Transfer Protocol (HTTP) server program. It is designed to be run as a standalone daemon process. When used like this it will create a pool of child processes or threads to handle requests. In general, hhttttppdd should not be invoked directly, but rather should be invoked via apachectl on Unix-based systems or as a service on Windows NT, 2000 and XP and as a console application on Windows 9x and ME. OOPPTTIIOONNSS --dd _s_e_r_v_e_r_r_o_o_t Set the initial value for the ServerRoot directive to _s_e_r_v_e_r_r_o_o_t. This can be overridden by the ServerRoot directive in the configuration file. The default is //eettcc//aappaacchhee22. --ff _c_o_n_f_i_g Uses the directives in the file _c_o_n_f_i_g on startup. If _c_o_n_f_i_g does not begin with a /, then it is taken to be a path relative to the ServerRoot. The default is ccoonnff//hhttttppdd..ccoonnff. --kk ssttaarrtt||rreessttaarrtt||ggrraacceeffuull||ssttoopp||ggrraacceeffuull--ssttoopp Signals hhttttppdd to start, restart, or stop. See Stopping Apache httpd for more information. --CC _d_i_r_e_c_t_i_v_e Process the configuration _d_i_r_e_c_t_i_v_e before reading config files. --cc _d_i_r_e_c_t_i_v_e Process the configuration _d_i_r_e_c_t_i_v_e after reading config files. --DD _p_a_r_a_m_e_t_e_r Sets a configuration _p_a_r_a_m_e_t_e_r which can be used with <IfDefine> sections in the configuration files to conditionally skip or process commands at server startup and restart. Also can be used to set certain less-common startup parameters including --DDNNOO__DDEETTAACCHH (prevent the parent from forking) and --DDFFOORREEGGRROOUUNNDD (prevent the parent from calling sseettssiidd(()) et al). --ee _l_e_v_e_l Sets the LogLevel to _l_e_v_e_l during server startup. This is useful for temporarily increasing the verbosity of the error messages to find problems dur- ing startup. --EE _f_i_l_e Send error messages during server startup to _f_i_l_e. --hh Output a short summary of available command line options. --ll Output a list of modules compiled into the server. This will nnoott list dynamically loaded modules included using the LoadModule directive. --LL Output a list of directives provided by static modules, together with expected arguments and places where the directive is valid. Directives provided by shared modules are not listed. --MM Dump a list of loaded Static and Shared Modules. --SS Show the settings as parsed from the config file (currently only shows the virtualhost settings). --TT (Available in 2.3.8 and later) Skip document root check at startup/restart. --tt Run syntax tests for configuration files only. The program immediately exits after these syntax parsing tests with either a return code of 0 (Syntax OK) or return code not equal to 0 (Syntax Error). If -D _D_U_M_P__V_H_O_S_T_S is also set, details of the virtual host configuration will be printed. If -D _D_U_M_P__M_O_D_U_L_E_S is set, all loaded modules will be printed. --vv Print the version of hhttttppdd, and then exit. --VV Print the version and build parameters of hhttttppdd, and then exit. --XX Run httpd in debug mode. Only one worker will be started and the server will not detach from the console. The following arguments are available only on the Windows platform: --kk iinnssttaallll||ccoonnffiigg||uunniinnssttaallll Install Apache httpd as a Windows NT service; change startup options for the Apache httpd service; and uninstall the Apache httpd service. --nn _n_a_m_e The _n_a_m_e of the Apache httpd service to signal. --ww Keep the console window open on error so that the error message can be read.
